Pull up a chair. Whether you’re a member, a Brother visiting from another Lodge, or simply someone who’s always quietly wondered what Freemasonry is actually about — you’re very welcome here.
We’re a friendly, down-to-earth Lodge that has met in Huddersfield for more than a hundred years. We meet at Lindley Masonic Hall, we look out for one another, we raise a good amount for local causes, and we have a genuinely good time doing it. That’s the short version. The longer version is below.

It’s a saying you’ll hear across our Province, and we mean it. Freemasonry has never been about getting in the way of the things that matter most — it’s about fitting alongside them. Your partner, your children, the people who depend on you: they always come first. Your livelihood comes next. And then, in the time that’s left, there’s us — a place to switch off, share a meal, learn something, and be among friends.
Far from pulling you away from family life, the best of Freemasonry pulls family in. Many of our social and charity events are for partners, children and guests too. Done well, this is something you do with the people you love, not instead of them.
So what actually is Concord Lodge?
Concord Lodge is a Masonic Lodge under the United Grand Lodge of England, and part of the Province of Yorkshire West Riding. We’re one of a close group of Lodges meeting here in the Huddersfield area, alongside familiar names like Unity, Colne Valley, Cambodunum, Armitage, Salarden, Beaumont and our own mother Lodge, Albert Edward.
At its heart, Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world. It brings together men from every walk of life — trades and professions, ages and backgrounds — around a simple, old-fashioned idea: that good men can help each other become better. We do that through friendship, through a few timeless ceremonies that carry real meaning, through supporting good causes, and through plenty of laughter over dinner.
We’re not a secret society, and we’re not a religion. We’re an ordinary group of people who’ve found something worth keeping.
The kind of loyalty you already understand
If you’ve ever played in a team, you’ll recognise this place straight away. The dressing-room feeling — where your word counts, where people show up for each other, and where nobody gets left behind — that’s the spirit of a Lodge.
Plenty of our members have come from sport and from the Armed Forces, and they tend to feel at home quickly, because the values line up. Integrity. Loyalty. Doing what you said you’d do. Standing by the people next to you, in the good seasons and the hard ones. We don’t make a song and dance about it — but it’s the quiet thread running through everything we do.
More than a century in Huddersfield
Concord Lodge was consecrated in 1920, formed by members of Albert Edward Lodge No. 1738 who wanted to create a Lodge of their own. The name was a deliberate choice: it completed a long-standing Huddersfield trio alongside the Lodge of Peace and the Lodge of Harmony — Peace, Harmony and Concord.
From those early days the Lodge settled at New Hey Road in Lindley, where we still meet today, and moved our regular Lodge night to the second Tuesday of the month — where it has stayed ever since. A century on, the faces have changed but the welcome hasn’t.
Charity and community
Freemasons are one of the largest charitable givers in the country, and it starts close to home. Across our Province, Lodges like ours support exactly the kind of causes that hold a community together — the local cricket and bowling clubs, the scout huts, the schools, the hospices and the air ambulance — as well as national appeals and disaster relief.
Every penny is raised from our own members and friends, and a good deal of it goes straight back into the neighbourhoods we all live in. Through the Masonic Charitable Foundation and West Riding Masonic Charities, that support reaches Freemasons and non-Masons alike, often when life has taken an unexpected turn.
Could it be for you?
You don’t need a connection, an invitation, or any special background to ask about joining. You just need to be a man aged 18 or over, of good character, with a belief in a supreme being — your particular faith is entirely your own business and no barrier at all.
Beyond that, the only real question is whether you’d value some good friends, a bit of structure, a sense of purpose and the occasional excellent dinner. If so, we’d love to hear from you — no pressure, and no commitment in simply having a chat.
